Footballer awarded compensation over broken leg
An ex-footballer who suffered a broken leg in a tackle has been issued compensation.
Marcus Hallows was playing for Altrincham FC in March 2005 when Ashton United defender Danny White made a challenge, the Bolton News reports.
The contact left Mr Hallows with an open fracture of the shin.
As a result of the incident, the 34-year-old was unable to continue playing the sport and he decided to launch civil proceedings against Mr White.
In a new development, he has proved successful, with a judge ruling that he should be awarded £32,500.
Mr Hallows said he was delighted with the result, adding that he would make a full statement when the judgement is read out in court in March.
Meanwhile, Ashton United - which is based in Ashton-under-Lyne in Lancashire and is currently chaired by David Aspinall - must now decide whether or not to appeal the decision.
