Folded company awards family £47.5k in compensation following asbestos death

news image A now-dissolved company has been ordered to award the family of a man who died from an asbestos-related illness £47,500 in compensation, a report has stated.

According to the Herald Express, insurers for Barnstaple - which is situated around 40 miles away from Exeter - firm Newman Tonks have agreed to pay the sum to the relatives of Donald Bracher, who died prematurely at the age of 76 due to poisoning from the substance in January 2008.

Mr Bracher had suffered health problems caused by asbestos since 2003 - the news publication goes on to say - and had worked for Shapland Petter, the name of the firm prior to its takeover by Newman Tonks, for 50 years after starting in 1996.

Kenneth, Mr Bracher's son, commented: "It's been a very long and difficult case which has stirred up a lot of emotions but I am glad we went through with it to make things right in my father's name."
