Firm may be subject to claim over worker hand injuries

news image A company may be subject to a compensation claim after one of its workers sustained injuries.

In November 2008, Aaron Watts caught his hand in an industrial drill while performing his duties for the Thor Hammer Company, BirminghamMail.net reports.

As a result of the incident, the employee had to take a month off work.

He suffered a deep cut to his palm after his glove became entangled in an unguarded pedestal drilling machine.

Recently, the company - which is a manufacturer of soft faced hammers and mallets - was fined £2,500 and ordered to pay costs after being found guilty of health and safety breaches.

Health and Safety Executive inspector Clive Neil remarked: "Once again we have an incident of an employee who suffered serious injury simply because there wasn't the necessary protection around the drill."

He went on to state that the damage sustained by Mr Watts could have been much worse.
