Family to take legal action over son's injuries

news image The family of a boy harmed in a freak accident at a shopping centre in south London are planning to sue over the incident.

Four-year-old Stevie Webb was trapped between two travelators at the Sava Centre in Croydon and had his head pulled back towards his ankles, the Croydon Guardian reports.

His mother hit the emergency stop button as quickly as she could, but the youngster suffered a number of burst blood vessels in his head, restricting his circulation and leaving him with a purple face and bloodshot eyes.

The child was taken unconscious to St George's hospital in Tooting, which is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the UK and serves 1.3 million people across south-west London.

Stevie's father Darren Webb said the family are looking to take action after seeing CCTV footage of the incident at his insistence.

He said: "There was no kind of protection or barrier to stop this from happening" and accused the Sava centre of trying to blame the child's mother for not keeping her son out of danger.

Centre manager Eric Sante said there was "no way" it could accept responsibility for the incident.
