Family sue after suffering illness abroad

news image A family are seeking compensation after they suffered illness while on holiday.

Suzanne and David Knighton were staying in Tirjey with their sons Shane and Kieron when the boys were struck down by a bug, the Sunday Mercury reports.

They claim that since arriving back in the UK, Kieron has continued to experience symptoms.

Eventually, the eight-year-old was diagnosed with cryptosporidium - a parasite that can cause gastroenteritis.

This is an infection of the stomach and bowel that, according to the NHS, affects around one in five people in England each year.

The Knightons suggest that poor standards of hygiene in the resort were to blame for their suffering and they are suing First Choice.

Kieron's mother said: "We were on an all inclusive holiday and everything we ate and drank was from the hotel. There was nowhere else that Kieron could have picked up this parasite."

First Choice has not admitted liability but said it has increased its checks at the resort.
