Family of man who died from asbestos-related illness may seek compensation
A family may seek compensation after an inquest ruled a man died from an asbestos-related illness.
Andrew White Ross lost his life at the age of 84 as a result of being exposed to the insulating material during his working life, the Whitehaven News reports.
He passed away in October last year at the West Cumberland Hospital, which is run by North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust.
A post-mortem revealed a "significant amount" of asbestos contact.
Mr Ross had worked all over the UK fitting pipework, radiators and boilers.
One of his projects involved extending the West Cumberland Hospital, which is where he met his wife.
Coroner David Roberts said: "Because of the majority of his work was working with asbestos laggers working behind him, Mr Ross would have been exposed to airborne asbestos at the time."
Mr Ross retired in 1989 after a career spanning nearly four decades.
