Families to claim after asbestos deaths?Compensation claims could be made by separate families after it emerged two loved ones passed away due to an asbestos-related illness.
According to the York Press, Peter Barnett and Raymond Kelly both died from malignant mesothelioma in December 2011 after spending time working for York Carriageways during their careers.
Mr Barnett died at the age of 70 and worked at the body's former Holgate Road site back in the 1960s, while Mr Kelly - who operated for the organisation around a decade later - was 69 when he passed away.
A colleague of Mr Barnett told his legal representatives that the man was one of a number of employees who would help spray asbestos on carriages, while also sweeping the material's dust off machinery and floors.
Meanwhile, Mr Kelly himself said he had not been provided with any protective clothing or equipment while working for the body, meaning the families of both men could now seek damages on their behalf.
