Employee may take legal action over broken bones
A worker who sustained broken bones while performing his role for his employer may take legal action in a bid to secure compensation.
In October last year, Shaun Jacob was operating as an apprentice for Randell and Janes Roofing Specialists near Lampeter - which is located in south-west Wales.
The 18-year-old was removing the ridge from a metal sheet roof when the accident happened.
An area on which he was standing buckled, causing him to tumble three metres to the ground.
As a result, he suffered a broken arm.
In a new development, his employer has been issued a fine and ordered to pay legal costs.
Phil Nicolle, inspector at the Health and Safety Executive, commented: "Employers have a legal requirement to properly plan work at height and ensure it is appropriately supervised, but this did not happen in this case."
He added that the incident was "disappointing" and the business showed "significant failings".
