Couple seek compensation over cruise sickness

news image A couple who became ill while on holiday are taking legal action in a bid to secure compensation.

Gordon Mavety, who was away with his wife Carole on a cruise around the Mediterranean, was struck down with norovirus, Get Bracknell reports.

Spread through contact with an infected person, surface or object, as well as by consuming contaminated food or water, the condition is a common form of gastroenteritis.

The pair were among around 70 people affected by the outbreak.

Mr Maverty remarked: "Late on the Wednesday I started feeling bad, then I got diarrhoea and sickness - we called the ship's doctor straight away and he gave me an injection for the cramps."

He added that around a quarter of those on board the ship became unwell.

The maintenance technician also noted that he was made to stay in his cabin for three days until the boat docked, an experience he described as claustrophobic.
