Couple awarded £6k compensation after road traffic accident
A couple have been awarded £6,000 in personal compensation after suffering whiplash and broken bones during a road traffic accident earlier this year.
According to the Plymouth Herald, James Brand and his pregnant wife were injured when reckless driver Damian Pritchard overtook both a lorry and a bus and ploughed into them head-on while travelling on the A379 road in February of this year.
Mr Brand escaped the collision with whiplash - which involves damage to the tendons and ligaments in the neck - and serious bruising, while his spouse sustained a broken hand and collarbone.
During a hearing at Plymouth Crown Court, it was revealed that Pritchard overtook a witness travelling "near the legal speed limit of 60 miles per hour" shortly before crashing into Mr and Mrs Brand's vehicle.
Judge Francis Gilbert QC, presiding over the case, told the defendant: "The accident was entirely your fault and it is a miracle that no-one was more seriously injured."
Pritchard will now pay ten monthly compensation instalments of £600 to the Brands in order to cover their loss of earnings and personal distress
