Consumers receive compensation over salmonella

news image A number of diners at a Chinese restaurant in Oldbury have received compensation after they suffered from salmonella poisoning.

Recently, the Wing Wah eatery was issued a fine of £10,000 and its director was ordered to complete 100 hours unpaid community service.

In addition, seven people affected by the outbreak have so far received a total of £45,000 for their suffering.

The case refers to poisoning which occurred in August 2008 and involved the use of raw eggs in tiramisu.

Six people had to be hospitalised as a result of the salmonella - which is caused by a form of bacteria usually found in poultry, eggs, unprocessed milk, meat and water.

It attacks the stomach and intestines and, in more serious cases, it may enter the lymph tracts.

Since the incident, the restaurant has stopped using raw eggs in the desert and a thorough deep clean was conducted, as well as changes to hygiene practices.
