Construction firm fined £8,000 for workplace accident
A construction company has been fined £8,000 for a workplace accident which left an employee with severe injuries.
Delme L James Ltd - a firm based in Carmarthen - was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for its role in an incident in which Gwyndaf Davies fell three metres from the roof of a farm building in April 2009.
Mr Davies, who was 21 years old at the time of the accident, suffered multiple facial problems as well as a brain injury and multiple fractures of his spine due to the impact he made with a concrete floor as he helped re-roof the farm building.
The worker spent nine months receiving medical treatment for his injuries and is now blind in one eye and partially sighted in the other. He can also no longer walk without aid and may need care for the rest of his life.
His employer was fined £8,000 and ordered to pay costs of more than £2,100 by Haverfordwest magistrates' court.
