Construction companies fined for incident in Hull

news image Two construction firms have been fined for their roles in an incident which endangered the health and safety of the public and could have caused several road traffic accidents.

During a case at Hull Crown Court, Balfour Beatty - which is ranked as the 19th largest contractor in the world - was ordered to pay a fine of £25,000 and costs of £17,676, while Multibuild Limited was subjected to a fine of £20,000 along with costs of £18,687 after an accident occurred in the east Yorkshire city back in December 2007.

Following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive, both companies pleaded guilty to breaching laws when a 44 tonne piling machine crashed on to a main road in the city during rush hour.

The machine rolled across the road before hitting a wall on the opposite side of the highway, meaning that the street was closed for several hours due to the clean up operation.
