Company ordered to pay £10,000 fine for exposing workers to lead

news image A company has been fined £10,000 for potentially risking causing its employees work-related illness through exposure to excessive levels of lead within its factory.

Anglia Lead Limited - which was founded almost 150 years ago and specialises in roofing work in the south east - was found to be subjecting its members of staff to dangerous amounts of the substance at its plant in Norwich as they cast molten lead into industrial sheeting, following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive.

Consequently, the firm pleaded guilty during a trial at Norwich Magistrates Court to failing ensure the wellbeing of its workers under Section 2 (1) of the Health and Safety Act 1974 and was ordered to pay a fine of £10,000.

Additionally, Mr Carlton Edwards was also personally subjected to a fine of the same amount after he admitted to the offence in his role as a director of the organisation.
