Bus injury victim has compensation increased
A woman who suffered injuries when she was hit by a bus has had her compensation increased.
In June 2005, Chantelle Osei-Antwi was heading to work at a Morrison's supermarket in Crystal Palace when she was struck by the vehicle, the Bromley Times reports.
The teenager was standing on a pedestrian part of the pavement when the incident occurred.
Due to the injuries she suffered, Ms Osei-Antwi had to go to hospital and she required surgery on her left ankle.
In a new development, Lady Justice Hallett, sitting with Lord Justice Ward and Lord Justice Hughes at London's Civil Court of Appeal, said the claimant was not guilty of contributory negligence.
She said: "She was standing on the pavement area designated for pedestrians, still several inches back from the edge of the road."
Ms Osei-Antwi will receive more than £18,000 from the South East London and Kent Bus Company, which is now part of the East London Bus Group.
