Bus company pays out £500,000 in compensation to users

news image A Scottish bus company has granted £500,000 to passengers who have been injured while using its vehicles.

Lothian Buses revealed to the Evening News that it had awarded the sum over the past three years to its passengers, with 160 of the claims being for people who had become stuck in the doors.

The most common complaint from passengers was for injuries sustained while they were travelling inside the bus, the details released as part of the freedom of information laws revealed.

The bus company has stated that the 2,045 cases that were filed against it made up a small minority of the journeys it had undertaken during that time.

A spokesman for Lothian Buses said: "With a business which last year carried well over 100 million passengers there are bound to be a number of accidents."

The company runs a variety of services, including night buses, an airport link to Edinburgh Airport and a sight-seeing bus tour around the Scottish capital.
