Building company and director fined £15,000
A London-based construction firm and its owner have been fined a total of £15,000 for potentially leaving two of its customers at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Rushi Construction Limited, which is situated in the Wembley district of the capital city and is owned by Vikas Patel, has been issued with the damages charges following its participation in an incident in Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire, between September and December 2009.
During this time period, Mr Patel's firm was building an extension at a property which involved building around the outside of a gas boiler. However, a study conducted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) revealed that a certified professional was not used for this part of the work.
It was also discovered that Mr Patel's amateur solution was leaking carbon monoxide gases into the house - an issue that can prove fatal - which resulted in him facing a personal fine of £3,000 and his company a fee of £12,000.
