Broken leg leads to compensation battle

news image A sportsman who suffered a broken leg as a result of a tackle has launched a battle to secure compensation.

Marcus Hallows sustained the injury while playing for Altrincham FC against Ashton United over four years ago.

As a result of the damage, he had to undergo two operations and is now suing for his suffering and loss of earnings.

The player responsible for the tackle was Danny White, whom Mr Hallows argues should have known there was a "foreseeable risk" of injury.

During a hearing at Manchester Civil Justice Centre - which opened last year - the former player claimed the challenge was "needless, reckless and potentially dangerous".

The 34-year-old now works in sales and has also appeared on stage as an Elvis impersonator.

Mr White claims that his momentum carried him into Mr Hallows and his trailing left leg caught his opponent's right leg. There was no intention to hurt him, he added.
