Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust ordered to pay £40k in compensation

news image The Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust (BHFT) has been ordered to pay £40,000 in compensation after a claim was made against it for medical negligence, a report has stated.

According to Getreading.co.uk, the mental health service provider must pay the damages sum after a woman ended up passing away following a diabetic coma which started under the supervision of the BHFT.

Mrs Shanu Jukes died in March 2006 after being taken to the BHFT's Prospect Parks facility as she was suffering from signs of confusion. However, even though the hospital was made aware of Mrs Jukes' diabetic condition, it failed to ensure that she ate properly to maintain her blood sugar levels.

Consequently, the patient slipped into the coma which eventually ended her life and the BHFT - whose Prospect Parks hospital is regarded as west Berkshire's main hospital for people with mental illness - was heavily criticised in the February 2007 inquest, the news publication continued.
