Asbestos-related cancer victim to receive compensation
A man who has developed a fatal condition as a result of his exposure to asbestos has been successful in his bid to secure compensation.
Over 18 months ago, Wilfrid Craig was diagnosed with mesothelioma, the ChronicleLive reports.
The 64-year-old, who has been given just months to live by doctors, came into contact with the hazardous insulating material over four decades ago while working as a joiner's apprentice at George Wimpey & Co.
While performing his role at the firm, he was not provided with respiratory protection.
Mr Craig remarked: "I am so angry to think my life and those of my wife and children have been torn apart unnecessarily because of my former employers' negligence."
He is now living in a hospice, where his pain is managed with morphine.
In a new development, he has been awarded a four-figure sum in damages.
As well as mesothelioma, exposure to asbestos can cause pleural plaques and asbestosis, among other things.
