Accident victim calls for changes to ensure compensation
A woman has called for changes to laws concerning mobility scooters under which users would have to take tests and get insurance.
Elaine Williamson was injured in a collision with such a device in 2008, which resulted in her suffering a broken left fibula, tibia and ankle, the Leicester Mercury reports.
The 59-year-old - who had to take a number of months off work to recover - has not yet received compensation because the owner of the scooter was not insured.
Commenting on the incident, she said: "I was on the pavement chatting to friends and an old gentleman on a scooter clattered in to me from behind."
Ms Williamson added that she was left in "agony" as a result of the crash.
She has now returned to work at Loughborough University - which is located on a single-site campus in the northern most part of Leicestershire.
However, she still has to wear a leg support and she says she is wary when walking around.
