Woman who developed asthma at work wins payout

news image A former chicken factory worker who developed asthma as a result of exposure to chemicals has won a payout.

Through her employment, Joyce Robson came into contact with formalin while operating in the egg hatching department of the firm.

She claimed she suffered from breathlessness and chest pain, adding that her enjoyment of being with her grandchildren has been affected and she can no longer take them swimming.

As a result, the 58-year-old took legal action against Grampian Country Chickens.

During a hearing at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, she was awarded £24,890.

Following the outcome, she commented: "My point was that I am going to be on an inhaler for the rest of my life and my condition will not improve the older I get," the Press and Journal reports.

Asthma affects the airways of sufferers' lungs and causes them to become inflamed and swollen.
