Soldiers may be in line for 7-figure compensation sum
A group of British soldiers who were injured while serving in Afghanistan could be in line to win stakes in a compensation pot worth seven figures, according to a Sky News report.
Lawyers acting on behalf of the military personnel have said that, although it may take two years to finalise the terms of the settlement, each individual may receive upwards of £500,000.
The case refers to an incident in which Corporal Mark Wright died after attempting to rescue colleagues who were injured as a result of landmine explosions.
In addition to the fatality, three men suffered lost limbs when they became trapped in a minefield near Kajaki - a village in the southern Afghani province of Helmand.
The compensation deal, which will be worked towards in an out-of-court settlement with the Ministry of Defence, was announced on the opening day of the resumed inquest into Corporal Mark Wright's death.
