Road traffic accident victim receives compensation
A man who suffered injuries in a road traffic accident has been awarded compensation.
According to reports in the Manchester Evening News, former rugby league player Brian Agard was struck by a motorbike as he crossed the road in Oldham, which is located by the Pennines in the north-west of England.
The incident took place in 2003 in the town's Lees Road.
As a result of the impact, he sustained a shattered left leg below the knee and doctors were forced to amputate the limb.
He also experienced further medical complications after the surgery took place.
Along with his wife Maxine, Mr Agard sued the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash and, in a new development, he has been awarded a lump sum in damages. He will also get yearly payments.
Judge for the case Mr Justice Wyn Williams described the settlement as both "fair and proper".
