Mother issues writ after son is injured at birth
A mother has launched legal action in a bid to secure compensation on behalf of her son, who was injured during his birth.
In a high court writ, Gillian Wick alleges that her child, Jack, suffers from Erb's Palsy because staff at Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot pulled on his arm too hard while he was being delivered, Get Bracknell reports.
Erb's Palsy is a condition caused by injury to the upper group of the arm's main nerves and it results paralysis in the limb.
Ms Wick is seeking £300,000 from the hospital for Jack, who has difficulty performing tasks such as doing up a shirt.
The youngster has reportedly already undergone major surgery twice and has scarring to the top of his right arm.
It is also thought that he will have to undergo further operations in the future.
According to Get Bracknell, whether or not the family receives a payout will be determined by a high court judge unless an out-of-court settlement is reached in the meantime.
