Mesothelioma sufferer seeks £100k payout

news image A man who has been diagnosed with the asbestos-related cancer mesothelioma is seeking compensation of £100,000.

Ronald Tetlow discovered he had the disease in April 2007 and doctors have told him he now only has months to live, the Bolton News reports.

He was exposed to asbestos while working at Henry Crossley between 1959 and 1970.

The courts ordered to the firm to pay him £110,000 but because it is no longer in business, the 79-year-old has not seen any of the money.

Mr Tetlow commented: "It is frustrating to know that the courts have awarded me this money but because no records have been kept to show who insured my employer when I worked there, I will be left with nothing."

He is hoping to trace the company's former liability insurers from the time he worked for the organisation.

Around 2,100 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma in Britain each year, according to figures cited by Cancer Research UK.
