Man who lost leg set to sue scaffolding firm

news image A man who lost his left leg while dismantling scaffolding is set to sue, it has been revealed.

Terry Ledger was working at the BP Coryton refinery in April 2005 when the limb became trapped in a revolving fan, the Essex Echo reports.

Vange Scaffolding - which was established in 1956 - accepted liability over the accident, according to a high court writ.

The writ states that metal caging put up around a set of fans had been damaged in an earlier accident and repaired using a piece of string.

Mr Ledger claims that, since losing his leg, he has suffered phantom limb discomfort and can only walk for around 15 minutes without experiencing pain.

The 41-year-old alleges that the firm was negligent in failing to warn him the cage was damaged and is seeking up to £300,000 in compensation.

Meanwhile, Kelvin Smith from Vange Scaffolding said the case was now in the hands of insurers and would not comment further.
