Injured pensioner secures six-figure sum in compensation
A pensioner who was injured when she was struck by a passing car has agreed on a six-figure compensation settlement, the Hertfordshire Mercury reports.
According to the publication, Irene Davis was hit by a vehicle in November 2005 in the town of Cheshunt, which is situated in the Broxbourne district of Hertfordshire.
The 81-year-old sustained fractures to her hip and head wounds which caused brain damage.
As a result of the incident, she was forced to give up her independence and move into a nursing home.
During a recent high court hearing in London, Ms Davis was awarded a settlement of £100,000 by the driver's insurers, plus annual payments of £25,000 to cover the cost of her care.
Mr Justice Sweeney also commented on the way in which her family had looked after her.
He said: "You should be commended for the way you have cared for Ms Davis."
