Gas fitters fined for health and safety breaches

news image Two gas fitters have been issued a fine after being found guilty of health and safety breaches.

Father and son Royston and Quinton Godsell fitted gas appliances for dozens of customers - most of whom were elderly - despite being unqualified.

During a hearing at Cheltenham magistrates court, the pair were given a life ban and fined £3,000, the Gloucester Citizen reports.

The court was told that the duo put homeowners at risk of poisoning from carbon monoxide, which reduces the blood's ability to carry oxygen around the body and can result in death.

Commenting on the case, Health and Safety Executive inspector Ian Whittles said: "[Royston and Quinton Godsell] took out adverts giving the impression they are able to work on gas appliances.

"They failed a standard competency evaluation and have been shown to put members of the public at risk."
