Family take legal action after industrial disease verdict recorded at inquest
Following a recent inquest in which it was ruled that a woman had died as a result of the industrial disease mesothelioma, it was revealed that the family are to take legal action.
The inquest, which took place at Derby coroner's court, found that Gloria Lawrence developed the cancer as a result of having been exposed to asbestos while working at Lucas Aftermarket Operations, the Derby Evening Telegraph reports.
The mother-of-three removed starter motors and alternators from scrap cars and cleaned them so they could be sold on.
She was employed by the firm between 1989 and 2000.
During the inquest, consultant engineer Colin Plum said: "There can be no doubt that some of the starter motors and alternators upon which the claimant worked incorporated asbestos-containing materials."
Ms Lawrence lost her battle with the disease, which affects the lining of the lungs or abdomen, in November last year.
According to her family's legal representatives, they are now pursuing legal action against her former employers in a bid to secure compensation.
I was very pleased with Claims Direct and felt comfortable talking to the caller.
