Family secures compensation following worker death
The family of a man who died in a workplace accident has secured compensation, it has been revealed.
During a recent high court hearing in London, the widow and children of Dean Thomas were awarded £335,000.
The money was paid in relation to an accident in May 2003 in which Mr Thomas suffered fatal injuries.
He had been crushed by a hydraulic lowering device whilst working inside the enclosure of a paper slitter-rewinder machine after a colleague accidentally pressed the wrong button.
His former employer J R Crompton had already been prosecuted in 2006 by the Health and Safety Executive, which serves to minimise risks that arise to people's wellbeing as a result of workplace activities.
Commenting on the family's payout, Ms Thomas said: "There is no way of bringing back my husband and the father of our two children but I am delighted that the court ruled that Dean was not in any way responsible for his death."
