Fall from height results in fine for company
A company from the east Staffordshire town of Burton-on-Trent has been issued a fine after one of its workers was injured in a fall.
In April last year, two employees of Forster Refurbishment and Property Services were operating on the roof of an industrial unit.
One of them fell on to a neighbouring roof pitch, which subsequently gave way and caused him to plummet 4.5 metres on to the concrete floor below.
As a result of the injuries he suffered, he has not been able to return to work since.
During a recent hearing at Staffordshire magistrates' court, the company was ordered to pay £7,000, plus costs of £3,138, after it pleaded guilty to health and safety breaches.
"Forster Refurbishment and Property Services failed to implement suitable measures to prevent a fall or to provide safety netting below the fragile roof," stated Health and Safety Executive inspector Tariq Khan.
