Director fined after man suffers carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms

news image The director of a company has been issued a fine after an elderly man suffered from symptoms similar to those of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Angelo Buratti, the head of JB Group of Companies, pleaded guilty to breaching health and safety laws during a hearing at Burton magistrates' court and was ordered to pay £15,000, plus costs of £3,750.

An investigation had discovered that incorrect installation work had been carried out by the firm.

"The dangers of incorrectly specified flue liners and incorrect installations are well known in trades associated with building and refurbishment. Such dangerous work as that seen here puts lives at risk from both carbon monoxide poisoning and fires in the home," stated Health and Safety Executive inspector Dr Janice Dale.

Carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms can be similar to those of a viral cold or flu infection and include headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, sore throats and dry coughs.
