Broken ankle results in compensation for worker

news image A woman who broke her ankle while at work has secured a payout of £3,000.

Kathryn Knight was performing her role as a radiographer when the accident happened.

The 23-year-old was pulling a screen used to give patients privacy along a corridor at the Bradford Royal Infirmary when the wheels hit her left ankle and caused it to break.

She had never been trained on how to move the equipment properly.

Ms Knight stated: "Because I was a new employee I hadn't been shown how to move the screens and, as a result, tried to move them in the way I thought was most sensible. I now know that these screens should be pushed to avoid injury."

In a new development, Bradford Teaching Hospital NHS Trust - which runs two hospitals and serves the people of Bradford and the surrounding area - admitted liability and agreed to settle the claim out of court.

I have been very impressed by your prompt and efficient service so far. The call handler took time to listen and was very helpful. I couldn't fault him.
