Brain damaged woman takes legal action
A woman who suffered brain damage when a car she was a passenger in crashed is suing for compensation.
Stephanie Stratton, who was 19 when the accident happened, was being driven by her friend Adam Roberts when he pulled on the handbrake at 55 mph and lost control of the vehicle, colliding with a tree, thisiseastgrinstead.co.uk reports.
Through her father, she is now claiming damages from Mr Roberts, who was convicted of driving without due care and attention during a hearing last year.
Ms Stratton underwent brain surgery after the crash and had to spend three weeks in intensive care, followed by five weeks in a high dependency unit at St George's Hospital, which describes itself as one of the biggest NHS medical centres in the country.
Since leaving hospital, she has been looked after by carers and her parents and still requires support.
According to a high court writ, she suffers from epilepsy, weakness down her right side and will not be able to work again.
