Boy wins payout over brain injuries
A boy who suffered serious injuries to his brain has been awarded an undisclosed sum in compensation, it has emerged.
According to reports in the Essex Echo, Aidan Farley-Walsh secured the payout in a settlement with bosses from Southend Hospital, which is run by the Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The hospital did not accept liability in the case.
Aidan, who is now nine years old, was starved of oxygen during his birth in 1999.
As a result, he developed cerebral palsy and was left blind.
His mother, Tina, initiated legal proceedings against the hospital in a bid to secure damages which would pay for the cost of his care.
According to the family's legal team, the compensation will be paid mainly in annual amounts.
Representing the hospital, Neil Block QC said: "We are sure that, while money could never provide and replace what they lost, at least for the future they go away knowing that his financial security has been provided for."
