Manual Handling at Work

Many of the back injury claims we deal with involve a back injury at work. Businesses are required by law to have Employers’ Liability Insurance to protect against accidents at work for both workers and visitors in a workplace.

If your employer requires you to carry out any manual handling at work, then they have to do a risk assessment to minimise the chance of injury. The Health & Safety Executive’s Manual Handling Operations Regulations document risks from carrying activities such as lifting, loading, pushing, pulling or moving goods and the duties requiring employers to comply with the regulations.

Some employers don’t know they have to train staff involved in manual handling, and this can lead to a clear case of negligence by the employer. Even if you had training and suffered a back injury, you are entitled to claim compensation; and your employer is not allowed to treat you unfairly or to dismiss you for claiming compensation for a back injury at work.

If you are not sure whether you have a claim or not, call us and we’ll be happy to help you.
