Driver in compensation battle

Driver in compensation battle 25518

A man from Stoneylaw has launched a legal battle against Tynedale Council after a car accident.

Strong winds meant a wheelie bin was blown into the middle of a road last autumn as Angus Tait was driving his vehicle.

Mr Tait's car struck the large bin and it caused substantial damage to the front of his automobile, according to the North-West Evening Mail.

"I had no chance to brake and I hit it square on, causing almost more than £900 worth of damage to my car, including damage to the bonnet, grille and headlamp," the motorist explained.

The man has now launched a compensation claim against the council, as he said the local authority's policies meant bins were left out unnecessarily by residents, which put him in danger of injury.

A spokesperson from Tynedale Council defended its practices and said adverse weather conditions were to blame for the damage.

The case continues.
