Man wins compensation after receiving spam 2827

A firm that sent dozens of emails a day to a man has been forced to pay compensation to him in what could be a landmark case.

Steve Higgins launched legal action against a cookware company that was sending hundreds of messages every month, according to the Daily Mail.

After working out the amount of time it took for him to delete the messages every time he received them - despite his attempts to unsubscribe - the man gave the firm a chance to settle out of court.

It refused and the case went to trial, where judges decided in favour of Mr Higgins and forced the offending company to pay him £750 in compensation, as well as £60 in costs.

Commenting on his courtroom costs, the 38-year-old said: "When I had requested them to stop and they ignore those requests it is really disappointing and frustrating ... you do not need to be rich to stop these companies hounding [you]."
