A number of residents in Carlisle have won a battle against the council to have potholes on a street filled in.
With the support of a local MP, homeowners along Borrowdale Gardens Road managed to force the authorities to resurface badly maintained streets that had caused accidents and injuries, according to the News and Star.
Any motorist who crashes their car because of potholes could be entitled to claim compensation against the local authority, which is obliged to make sure the road network is tarmaced well enough for drivers to safely travel along.
Colin Harrington, 58, one of the residents who campaigned for the repairs, said: "I am happy that it is getting done as I think it will make it safer. People are coming and damaging their cars and the roads."
A spokesperson for Cumbria County Council Highways division stated the authorities had received a complaint and acted on it as is normal procedure.
