Severe burns may lead to compensation claim 2698

Keith Buckley required numerous skin grafts after suffered severe burns to his right leg and hand when he fell into a furnace at work premises owned by Meridian Lightweight Technologies in Nottinghamshire last May.

The work accident happened when the 59-year-old man was taking down equipment from the top of the magnesium furnace in order to make sure it was ready to have its inner lining removed at a later date.

However, his right foot subsequently got temporarily trapped in the machine which runs at a temperature of around 500 degrees, resulting in him sustaining severe burn injuries.

Although Mr Buckley has since returned to work, he is now only able to carry out lighter duties.

Sian Tiernan, inspector at the Health & Safety Executive said, "Mr Buckley is very fortunate. If he hadn't managed to release his foot from his boot his injuries would have been far worse, possibly even fatal."
