Compensation is being claimed from a power company after an elderly man was left seriously injured following a freak accident in London.
Pensioner Colin Wingate was left wheelchair-bound for nearly three months after an explosion blew out a manhole cover he was standing near, as he spoke to friends on the street in Harrow last August.
Mr. Wingate told the London Evening Standard that "the force of the explosion literally lifted me off the ground. The manhole edge cut my leg severing the tendons. It was a deep gash".
The 75-year-old is not alone in suffering from such an unusual accident, as there have been a series of similar explosions in several areas of London over the last few months. In one instance a woman suffered 20 per cent burn injuries during an explosion blast on Edgware Road earlier this week.
Mr. Wingate has decided to claim compensation from UK Power Networks, the company that maintains the underground electric cabling in London, for his injuries.
