Compensation for crush injury in work accident

Compensation granted after serious accident at work 2669

Paul Gelder suffered serious crush injuries when he got trapped between a wall and a reversing truck while working at a UPS (Supply Chain Solutions) plant in Wakefield in November 2008, the Wakefield Express reports.

As a result of the accident, the 54-year-old now has permanent pain in his back, legs and hips and it is consequently thought unlikely he will ever be fit to work again after he had a metal bar fitted in his back to hold his pelvic bones in place.

In the Court case heard in 2010, UPS admitted to breaking health and safety regulations and was fined £25,000.

Mr. Gelder has now been paid compensation for the work accident and told the news source he is "relieved" the case has come to a close.

"My life has changed completely but thankfully I now have help with treatment and special equipment to help me around the house," he added.
