Accident at work leads to 14k damages sum 2696

In a work accident at Rotherham Borough Council, a woman tripped over a table leg and she was paid more than £14,000 in personal injury compensation.

Her compensation settlement forms part of the total amount of compensation worth almost £1 million paid to staff at Rotherham Borough Council in work accident claims over the last five years.

On average, the local authority has paid compensation of £193,558 to employees following such incidents every year since, with four staff paid a total of £26,000 for injuries they suffered after falling off chairs.

Meanwhile, a labourer was granted more than £10,000 after he fell into a hidden garden pond at a Council house he was working on; the Daily Mail reported.

Despite these figures, Councillor Jahangir Akhtar, deputy leader of the Council said, "The council prides itself on its risk assessment and health and safety policies and continues to invest in this area to maintain our good record."
