Residents urge council to prevent car accidents

Residents of a small village on the south of England have pleaded with their local authority to take action to reduce the number of car accidents in their area.

According to online news source This is the West Country, people living in Donyatt have urged Somerset County Council to improve safety measures on a dangerous bend in the village where crashes are common.

Locals say there have been 16 such incidents at Pound Corner on the A358 highway over the course of the last two or three years, the latest of which occurred earlier this month (June 10th) when a car smashed into a tree.

Bill Porritt, who lives on Pound Corner, told the news source the spate of accidents in the area suggests that the patch of tarmac is not in good enough condition.

"I see all the accidents and I think sooner or later someone's going to get hurt here. We'd like to see measures for slowing traffic down and would like someone to look at the road surface," he noted.
