Plumber to face compensation claims?

A plumber may face several compensation claims on the grounds of carbon monoxide poisoning after being found guilty of conducting illegal gas work.

Brian Lloyd was exposed as a rogue trader by a television programme three years ago but, despite this fact, subsequently continued to carry out work involving potentially-lethal gas appliances even though he is not listed on the Gas Safe register.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the self-employed 59-year-old contravened a Prohibition Notice to carry on doing this type of job and one such project at a property in Ossett went wrong.

When asked by the resident of the house to present his Gas Safe certificate, Mr Lloyd was unable to do so and he was then censored by the HSE again.

Andy Denison, inspector at the health and safety body, observed: "This is one of the worst cases I have come across involving a repeat offender and unsafe gas work."
