Dental negligence leads to £4k compensation award

Dental negligence has resulted in compensation of £4,000 being awarded to a man in an out-of-court settlement.

According to the Sunday Sun, John Turnbull took legal action against Dr David Stewart - the former manager of the Glenholme Dental Practice in Dunston, Gateshead - on the grounds the professional unnecessarily extracted two of his bottom teeth.

It was later established that the 56-year-old's teeth could have been saved without the need for them to be taken out, and Dr Stewart has now been struck off the Dentists Register after three of his other patients also complained about him.

Mr Turnbull told the news source he was left in terrible pain following the procedure in 2008 but when he returned for further treatment, the practice had closed down.

"It was difficult to eat on the right side of my mouth and cleaning my teeth was impossible. I was disappointed," he told the news source.

The claimant has now been granted £4,000 in damages and is set to undergo extensive restructuring work in Hungary.
