Dental negligence leads to 20k damages award 2605

Medical negligence committed by a dentist has resulted in a woman being awarded £20,000 in damages following a compensation claim.

According to the Romsey Advertiser, Kathryn Vaughan took legal action against Jonathan Drummond of the Berukin Dental Practice after his misdiagnosis left her needing four tooth extractions and root canal treatment on two other teeth.

The 31-year-old had struggled with persistent dental pain for a number of years and Mr Drummond failed to spot the fact she had serious decay in five teeth.

In addition, errors he made during the procedure to extract one of these teeth led to another tooth becoming fractured and, being as he did not subsequently repair it, this also needed to be taken out.

As a result, Ms Vaughan will now need extensive surgery to repair the injuries caused by the dentist.

“I’m glad that this is settled and the compensation will go some way towards repairing the damage that has been done so I can move on from this horrible and distressing ordeal," she told the news source.
