Burn Injuries to Both Arms in Workplace Accident

Burns could lead to compensation claim 2637

Stewart Wood suffered severe burn injuries to both his arms in an accident at work in Leek, Staffordshire in August 2011.

The accident happened when his arms were caught in a dye machine while he was working in premises owned by his employers Marling.

At the time of the accident the 21-year-old man was working a night shift when he attempted to untangle some webbing that had got stuck on the equipment's rollers. His left arm got stuck in between the rollers, as did his right arm when he attempted to remove it.

The machine then drew both arms into the machinery, leaving Mr Wood with extensive burn injuries that resulted in him having to spend two weeks in the specialist burns unit at North Staffordshire Hospital.

After a work accident investigation by the Health and Safety Executive, HSE Inspector Lyn Spooner said, "Mr Wood was lucky not to have been more seriously injured or even killed in the accident."
