Postman awarded £11k damages after accident at work

Compensation of £11,000 has been awarded to a postman who was injured when he fell out of the back of his delivery van.

Alan Kenyon has received this five-figure damages sum after he tripped over a loose edging strip in the vehicle and dislocated his shoulder due to the force with which he hit the ground, the York Press reports.

The 49-year-old had to undergo surgery on his shoulder, but this initial operation was unsuccessful so he then went under the knife again after a course of physiotherapy and injections.

"It all happened so quickly ... somehow I managed to twist my body before I hit the ground and my shoulder took the full impact - otherwise it would have been my head," he told the news source.

Mr Kenyon also had to take time off from his job at Parcelforce - which is part of Royal Mail, a body with 175,000 employees - but now plans to return to work imminently.
